Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you'd want to know about Faunaly.

A few honest answers from the people who built it. If something else is on your mind: we'd love to hear from you.

01. What Faunaly is

Faunaly is a parent-completed personality assessment for children ages 3–11. You answer a short set of questions about your child's everyday behavior: how they play, recharge, make decisions, and connect with others and we map those tendencies to one of 16 animal archetypes.

Each result comes with a comprehensive written report: a warm, non-clinical guide to understanding your child's natural personality: how to communicate with them, what helps them thrive, what to watch for, and how their nature may evolve as they grow.

Animals carry behavioral meaning that abstract labels don't. Saying your child is a Lion immediately evokes something, a presence, a way of moving through the world. Abstract codes don't do that work on their own.

The animal also creates a bridge to the natural world. Each archetype is matched to a real species whose behavior genuinely mirrors the personality profile, which opens the door to curiosity, conservation awareness, and a sense of kinship with wild animals. That's a deliberate part of the philosophy.

Most personality tools are designed for adults and ask the subject to reflect on their own behavior. Faunaly is designed from the ground up for children, answered by parents, calibrated to specific developmental age bands, and framed around behaviors that are actually observable at that age.

The questions for a 4-year-old look nothing like the questions for a 9-year-old, because what introversion or structure-seeking looks like at those ages is genuinely different. That age-calibration is what makes the output feel accurate rather than generic.

Faunaly is launching with the ages 3–5 band in Q3 2026, with the 6–8 and 9–11 age bands following in Q4 2026. Each band has its own fully calibrated question set, the same 16 animals, but every question is tailored to what personality actually looks like at that specific stage of development.

Snow Leopard, Owl, Lion, Orca, Humpback Whale, Octopus, Elephant, Penguin, Beaver, Sea Otter, Wolf, Gorilla, Chameleon, Giant Panda, Fox, and Parrot. Each maps to a distinct combination of four personality dimensions and each was chosen because its real-world behavior genuinely mirrors the human personality profile it represents.

02. How it works

About 5–10 minutes. The ages 3–5 assessment is 28 questions in a simple agree/disagree format. You're answering based on what you observe about your child. No special knowledge required, just familiarity with their everyday behavior.

You'll see your child's animal reveal immediately, along with a short preview of their personality profile. To unlock the full report, there's a one-time payment of $14.99. Once payment is confirmed, the complete PDF report is delivered to your email within about 60 seconds.

No account required. No subscription. Just the report, in your inbox.

The full report is a comprehensive, beautifully written guide to your child's personality. Not a quiz result printout. It covers:

Who your child is, a rich personality snapshot written specifically for their archetype and age band.

How to communicate with them Language, framing, and approaches that tend to land well with this type.

What helps them thrive Environments, routines, and interactions that support their natural tendencies.

What to watch for, the shadow side of their strengths, and how to meet it with understanding rather than friction.

How they may evolve What this personality profile typically looks like as children grow into adolescence and beyond.

A conservation note, a brief profile of the real animal their archetype is matched to, and its conservation status in the wild.

Yes and we actively encourage it. Personality tendencies can shift meaningfully as children develop, and what's true at 4 may look different at 7. We recommend reassessing every 12–18 months, or whenever you feel like your child has gone through a significant developmental shift.

Each reassessment is a new purchase. There's no subscription required to retake.

Faunaly makes a single, lump-sum annual donation to each conservation partner each December. Not a per-report micro-payment. The amount scales with Faunaly's annual revenue.

We chose this structure intentionally: it allows us to make meaningful, relationship-building donations to each organization rather than fragmented micro-transactions. All partner organizations are verified 501(c)(3) nonprofits with Charity Navigator ratings of 3 stars or higher.

Faunaly's total annual giving and full partner list is published publicly each January at faunaly.com/about.

03. The science & methodology

Yes. Faunaly's framework draws on decades of peer-reviewed developmental research, including Rothbart's Children's Behavior Questionnaire, Caspi et al.'s landmark work on personality stability across childhood, Kagan and Snidman's research on behavioral inhibition, and Eisenberg's work on effortful control and emotional regulation.

The four personality dimensions we measure (how children direct attention, take in information, make decisions, and approach structure) have robust empirical support as meaningful and observable in children as young as age 3.

What Faunaly doesn't claim: we're not a clinical diagnostic tool, and we don't replace professional evaluation. We describe behavioral tendencies at a developmental stage. Not fixed, permanent personality types.

Research says yes, with appropriate framing. Studies consistently show that core personality dimensions show meaningful stability from as early as age 3, and that parent-observation-based assessment at young ages is both valid and reliable (Caspi et al., 2005; Rothbart, 2001).

The important nuance: personality in early childhood is more fluid than in adulthood. Faunaly frames all results as tendencies at this developmental stage. Not a permanent label. The goal is to help parents understand how their child naturally operates right now, with the expectation that some things will shift.

Faunaly draws on the same Jungian psychological dimensions that inform many personality frameworks — Introversion/Extraversion, Intuition/Sensing, Thinking/Feeling, and Judging/Perceiving, but is independently constructed and calibrated for children, not adults.

We don't use Myers-Briggs instruments, codes, or licensed materials. Our questions are written from scratch based on developmental research, and our framing is specific to childhood behavior at each age band.

Trust your read. You know your child. If a result feels off, a few things are worth checking: whether the questions were answered based on typical behavior (not how your child was acting that week), and whether some answers reflected a wish for how they'd behave rather than how they actually do.

Personality assessments, especially at young ages, are probabilistic, not deterministic. The report is a starting point for reflection, not a verdict. If the result is significantly off-base, we'd rather you tell us than silently doubt it. Reach out at [email protected].

04. Privacy & your child's data

Nothing. We collect no identifying information about your child. No name, no date of birth, no photo, no gender. Not even a nickname.

The only information we collect is from you, the parent: your first name (for the email greeting), your email address (for report delivery and optional reassessment reminders), your country, and your answers to the assessment questions. That's it.

Faunaly is designed with children's privacy as a foundational constraint, not an afterthought. Because we collect no information about children, only from parents. We've built a product that sidesteps the data exposure risks that concern most parents about children's digital products.

You are the data subject. Your child is not in our system in any form.

No. We don't sell data, share it with third parties for advertising purposes, or use it to target you or your child. Your email is used to deliver your report and, if you opt in, to send reassessment reminders. Nothing else.

Email us at [email protected] with your request and we'll remove your data from our system within 7 business days. Because we don't create user accounts, deletion is permanent. You won't be able to recover past reports after removal.

05. Pricing & access

The assessment is free. You'll see your child's animal reveal and a snapshot of their personality profile at no charge. The full written report, which is comprehensive and written specifically for your child's archetype and age band is $14.99, one time.

No subscription. No hidden fees. No account required.

It funds the work itself, the developmental research, the writing, the question calibration across age bands, the platform, and customer support and a meaningful portion is routed to conservation of the real animal your child is matched to. We make an annual lump-sum donation each December to 16 vetted conservation organizations, one per archetype, all with verified nonprofit status and strong Charity Navigator ratings.

If the report doesn't resonate with you, reach out at [email protected] within 14 days and we'll make it right. We'd rather hear from you than have a parent feel like they didn't get value from this.

Yes. Each assessment and report is per child, but there's no limit to how many you can complete. Many parents find it genuinely useful to run the assessment for each of their children and compare the results. Siblings often land in different archetypes, which can reframe a lot of friction.
